Contemporary Garden, Redbourn

A series of granite terraces are set around this house in the country. By making the most of the sightlines to a wider landscape we were able to enhance the views from each room in the house. Roof top trained ornamental pear trees create height and balance, framing the water feature and providing summer shade. The raised planters combine a lighter granite face with a darker granite coping. The terrace borders are planted with lavender spilling over the basalt paving, and giant alliums turn their heads to follow the sun’s path before they open. Grasses provide a sea of soft movement either side of a raised path flowing to the annexe. Dramatic lighting illuminates the majestic oak trees while the old apple’s gnarled bark becomes sculptural at night.
